Alfred “Al”
Arther Ackerman
Nov 3, 1941 — Feb 27, 2024
Priest River
Alfred "Al" Ackerman, 82, of Priest River, Idaho passed away from natural causes on February
27, 2024 at Bonners General surrounded by family. Al was born November 3, 1941, to Lyle and
Vida Ackerman in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Al grew up with his brother and sister working with horses on the farm, hunting and spending
time with cousins. After graduating from Priest River High School, Al enlisted in the army in
1963. After serving 3 years in the service, Al joined his parents in Priest Lake, Idaho where he
followed in his dad's footsteps working in the woods logging.
Al met the love of his life, Joyce in 1966 at a family Thanksgiving. After a short courtship, Al and
Joyce married on April 22,1967 in Clarkston, WA. Life was a whirlwind of new homes and new
towns as Brian and Brad came into their world. After half a dozen homes across Alaska to
Idaho, they settled in Priest River, Idaho on the river where they raised their boys.
The years with the boys were surrounded with family hunting trips on the St. Joe, fishing,
camping and 4-wheeling. After spending his life logging, Al retired in 1995 after a logging
accident. Al and Joyce called Priest River their home for almost 45 years, other than the short 5
years they lived in Post Falls, Idaho.
Being a grandpa was what Al loved most and could not wait to hear about what the kids were
achieving and getting into. Al loved teasing them and sharing all his crazy stories with them.
Al is preceded in death by his dad Lyle and his mom Vida. Al is survived by his wife, Joyce; their
children, Brian and Keri, Brad and Virginia; four grandchildren, Abby, Coldin, Caitlin, and
Reegan; his brother Cliff and Jeannie and his sister Charlotte; and many cousins, nieces and
nephews.
The family will be planning Alfred's Celebration of Life at a later date..
