Albert William Zehm, known to all of us as Al.

Al was born on October 25, 1955, in Spokane, Washington, to his parents, Clarence Zehm and Bertie Willey, both of whom have gone before him. He grew up surrounded by family, sharing his life with his siblings—his sister Euveda Nance, who has also passed on, his brother Glenn Zehm, and his sister Evelyn Kammers.

He leaves behind a loving legacy through his nieces and nephews—Elizabeth, Katherine, Daniel, Rochelle, Sharmaine, Cherie, Amanda, and Marie—as well as many great-nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.

Al served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to 1976, working as an equipment mechanic and driver. That same work ethic and skill followed him throughout his life into his career in general contracting. He built and renovated many custom projects, leaving behind not just structures, but lasting pieces of craftsmanship that speak to his dedication and pride in his work.

But Al was more than his work.

In his spare time, he had a knack for fixing things—especially lawn equipment—and a patience for growing life, raising trees from seeds and saplings to share with others. He found peace and happiness in the outdoors, whether boating, fishing, or simply enjoying the quiet satisfaction of watching something grow.

He was also a man of community and camaraderie. Al embraced the open road, riding to places like Sturgis and participating in toy runs that brought joy to children in local organizations. He lived fully—working hard and playing just as hard.

In his later years, as his health began to slow him down, Al didn't lose his spirit. He adapted, finding new joy in simpler things—like growing tomatoes during the warm months. No matter what life placed before him, he found a way to enjoy it. That was who he was: resilient, grounded, and quietly grateful.

Al lived a life defined by perseverance, skill, and heart. He leaves behind not only memories, but lessons—about hard work, about finding joy in the everyday, and about staying strong through whatever life brings.

On Thursday morning, March 19, 2026, our Lord God called Al home.

Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on—in the things he built, the lives he touched, and the love he shared.

He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
