Alan "Al" Gage Curtis, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025 in Coeur d'Alene Idaho, surrounded by his family. It was bitter sweet as he longed to join his beloved wife of 49 years, Sonja "Sunny" Olivia (Peterson) Curtis who preceded him in death in 2023. In his youth, he was considered "little brother" to his sisters and "alley Boy" to the rest of the family. As much as his mom tried, Al was not a book learner. He had a quick mind and learned on the job by 'doing'. He worked in construction as the right hand of Marland Curtis, his father, for Curtis Construction and MJB Materials. His profession would take him across various states as he ran an established rock crushing plant that would supply aggregate for road building and dam building before his retirment in 1991. Al always had a connection with animals. His siblings recall fond memories of him riding his horse 'Flash'. His kids were told stories about Him throwing a few cans of beans in a saddle bag, jumping on his horse and being gone for a few days at a time. Oftentimes racing the train on his horse for fun. He wed the love of his life, Sunny, June 20, 1972. Together, he and Sunny raised a combined 11 children, adopting any and every teenager that found their way to the dinner table as their own. Alan loved his children and grandchildren, and always supported their endeavors when he could. Anytime one of the kids had car trouble, a call to dad was certain to be followed by the reassuring sound of his diesel truck or tractor roaring to the rescue. Alan was well known to many, and for a few obvious reasons: his colorful character, and that he was Willie Nelson's doppelgänger (Which he took advantage of every chance he could).  Alan never missed an opportunity to invest in his community. He would attend the local 4-H Club's events and fundraisers, support his church and grandkid's school at House of the Lord, sponsor the Edgemere Grange's work days and fundraisers, and most recently, buy meals for those who frequented his favorite places to eat in Priest River. Everyone was his friend. Alan will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He made such an impact on everyone he met. There will truly be a huge hole left in our lives.
